The Quilts of Valor Foundation is a grassroots organization whose mission is to award healing Quilts of Valor to veterans and military personnel. The organization was first started in 2003 by Catherine Roberts of Delaware when she made and awarded a quilt to a recovering soldier in the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Since that time, over a quarter of a million quilts have been awarded to veterans and military personnel.
If you know of a deserving veteran who would like to be awarded with a quilt (ask first as not all veterans want a quilt), go to: https://www.qovf.org/nominations-awards/
Or, if you would like to donate financially to this cause, go to: https://www.qovf.org/about-qovf/whos-in-my-area/ and enter group number “50306” – your donation will go to the local group that supports this county. .
The Space Coast QOV sewing group meets monthly at Quilts & Lace in the Suntree area of Melbourne, on the 4th Thursday of each month, from 5pm to 6pm. If you would like to work on a Quilt of Valor, please come out and join the team. They will happily accept completed blocks and/or quilts based on the patterns below. The ideal finished size is 60″x80″ ( minimum 55″x65″ – maximum 72″x90″). For more information visit their website. http://qovf.org
